International Cryomedicine Experts (ICE) deploys experienced medical, surgical, and perfusion teams to help cryonics patients reach their service provider within a very small window of opportunity for cryoprotective perfusion. ICE now formally provides services for Cryonics Institute clients in the U.S. and around the world.
SST+SP: Standby, stabilization, transport, plus surgery & perfusion prior to shipping.
Scope: Domestic U.S. & international deployments, coordinated with your Cryonics Service Organization (CSO).
Clients: Cryonics Institute and other cryonics members who require field cryoprotection support.
The old standard of Standby, Stabilization & Transport (SST) has expanded to include Surgery & Perfusion (+SP) prior to transport, to address the shrinking time window for high-quality perfusion.
Over the years, the time requirement for a patient to arrive at their Cryonics Service Organisation (CSO) has been reduced from about 72 hours to now as little as 24 hours following clinical death. This has become increasingly difficult to achieve, depending on the patient’s location, the circumstances surrounding their clinical death, and the local regulations governing death certificates and transport permits, all before interstate or international transport can even begin.
To overcome these logistical challenges, ICE can provide surgery and perfusion with cryoprotectant solutions at the patient’s location, rather than waiting for regulatory approval and lengthy transport before the CSO can attempt these same procedures. This early intervention can significantly improve the entire cryoprotective process by protecting cells at a much earlier stage.
The medical phrase “Time is Tissue” captures this reality: the longer you wait for treatment, the more damage will occur and the lower the chances for meaningful recovery. Nowhere is this more relevant than in cryopreservation.
ICE offers three main levels of engagement for Cryonics Institute members and other clients. Pricing reflects the cost of experienced personnel, equipment, perfusate, and specialized cold-chain logistics.
*Standby duration: Pricing includes up to 96 hours of standby for critical-risk patients. Additional standby beyond 96 hours is typically $2,750 per day. For less critical cases requesting shorter standby, a deployment fee of $7,500 for the first 72 hours may apply, with extensions at approximately $2,750 per day if requested.
*International deployments: An additional international fee of about $12,500 applies for cases in Canada and around $25,000 for cases outside the U.S. and Canada. Some remote locations may require a higher fee, which will be discussed before any agreement is signed.
*Additional costs: Fees may vary based on country, access, and case complexity. All additional fees are discussed and agreed upon prior to deployment. Pricing is subject to change.
Packages can be adjusted with extended standby, international deployment, and charter aircraft to further reduce ischemic time for your case.
Collectively, ICE team members have participated in more than 150 cryopreservations for Cryonics Institute, Alcor, and Yinfeng. This experience spans routine, complex, and international cases.
ICE is based in the Phoenix, Arizona area, led by Aaron Drake and Eric Vogt, with additional paramedic and support personnel located in California, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Alaska, and Hawaii. For specific cases, we can draw on a broader network of specialists.
Every case is unique. Our focus is to integrate with your CSO, respect local providers, and apply best-available practices in field cryoprotection under the constraints of your location and situation.
If you have a current or anticipated cryonics case, please contact us as early as possible. Early communication creates more options for routing, permitting, and team deployment.
